KUCHING: Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mazlan Mansor yesterday launched  Ops Selamat (Operation Safe) at Kuching Sentral here.

The traffic safety operation, carried out by the Royal Malaysian Police to ensure safety on all roads during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, will end on 2 July, 2017,

“The theme of the operation is “Rumah Selamat, Selamat Sampai ke Destinasi” and we are focusing on two main things, namely, to prevent housebreaking and minimise the number of accidents on the road.

“It is important for house owners to ensure that their houses are locked and safe before leaving for the celebration.

“Road users are also reminded to drive safely to their destinations,” said Mazlan before adding that the public should plan their journeys  to avoid congestion.

Asked about a post by blogger “Papagomo” which went viral on the social media recently, Mazlan said so far, netizens had lodged 37 police reports against him.

“We are still investigating the case. Since it involves the media, it took time for us to investigate,” he explained. “Papagomo” had allegedly insulted Sarawak in his post as he defended Minister of Tourism and Culture, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz following the latter’s spat with Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Meanwhile, asked about the teacher who allegedly sodomised a 14-year-old student, Mazlan said that the teacher was still under remand until 21 June, 2017.

“Investigation is still ongoing. If there is enough evidence, he will be prosecuted,” disclosed the Police Commissioner .
