KUCHING: Second hand dealers who trade stolen items will be charged seriously by the police and their licences will be suspended.
State Police Commissioner (CP) Datuk Mazlan Mansor said that they will retrieve all second hand dealers who are involved with the offence and the list will be sent to the state government.
“They (the state government) will be in charge licence suspension. Apart from that they will face their charges in the Court.
“Such action is necessary as dealers have been acting beyond their limits as to steal public and private properties such as fences, drain covers and cables which also leads to the increase of burglary and vandalism of public properties.
“Since February, we have taken such action towards those who commit the offence. Although there is a decrease, it is disappointing to know that there are still second hand dealers out there who refuse to adhere to the laws,”
Mazlan told this to reporters after attending the Discussion Programme held at the state police headquarters (IPK) in conjunction with the 210th anniversary of Police Day here yesterday.
“As dealers are willing to buy stolen items, it has also led to the increasing number of thefts and burglaries throughout the state.
“Therefore, we from the police will not have second thoughts to take action against dealers involved.
“Their (dealers) licences will be suspended as we will be sending requests to the District Office as well as Land and Survey Department in the state government.
“Apart from that, we are also actively monitoring activities at the borders (with Indonesia), especially the smuggling of stolen motorcycles.
“We will ensure that no stolen vehicles will be allowed to pass through the borders even though there are hidden routes that they will pass through,” said Mazlan.
