KUCHING: It is inevitable that an enterprising 38-year-old lady with a passion and aptitude in manufacturing crafts to establish her own firm, Susana Enterprise
The owner, Susana Satot, said that she now has a variety of her own items, thanks to her enthusiasm and expertise working with craft shops, resulting in a variety of handmade items such as bags, wallets, scarf cloth, and others.
Susana revealed that she has been active with handicrafts since 2008 when asked about her involvement in the arts.
“The ability to produce items in tiny and large sizes is not restricted. Pua kumbu and batik fabric are used to make the majority of the items.
“Additionally, bemban plant stems are used in the production of bags. The method of making the product is done by hand, including the weaving and sewing.
“The bemban material is also obtained from the forest itself, then crafted into handmade products,”’ she added.
The woman entrepreneur from Serian noted that if the materials are ready and available, constructing a medium-sized wallet takes only 10 minutes, as of now she is able to make 35 batik and pua kumbu wallets in one day that are popular among the locals and West Malaysian tourists.
Being in the field of local product entrepreneurship, she describes it as a difficult but rewarding vocation.
“Don’t neglect a career as an entrepreneur because it can help someone to go higher in the field of business, and I would like to encourage the young generation in particular to venture into the field of entrepreneurship in order to establish their own products and economy,” she said.
Meanwhile, she urged the future generation to pursue craft creation so that these abilities will not be lost to the passage of time.
“I, too, encourage the youngsters to participate in the creation of handicrafts. They are still learning, and I am confident that it will assist everyone who possesses these abilities,” she said.
She emphasised that it would be a shame if those abilities were not mastered and passed down to future generations.
Susana went on to invite the public to visit her craft shop in Eastern Mall, Siburan, to see and appreciate the works she has accomplished.
