BALAI RINGIN: Handicraft courses can improve family economies and preserve cultural heritage.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), Datuk Snowdan Lawan, said that such courses equip participants with skills to create and sell handicrafts, especially to foreign markets, thereby boosting their family’s economic status.
At the opening ceremony of the handicraft making course here recently, he stated this initiative also aims to uphold Sarawak’s unique heritage and customs.
Further, he announced similar courses will be organised in Sri Aman, Kanowit, and Tatau, with additional requests from Miri, Sibu, Bintulu, and Kuching.
Snowdan also distributed RM10 million under the Dana Mudah Cara programme to support handicraft courses across Sarawak.
Additionally, he presented two longhouse chiefs with their appointment certificates and donated 10 sets of Smart TVs to SMK Balai Ringin, with half contributed by the Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (SABATI).
Also present were Snowdan’s wife Datin Melinda Bucking, MTCP Permanent Secretary Datuk Sherrina Hussaini, and Administrative Officer of Balai Ringin Subdistrict Office Mohamad Adam Muslim.
