MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) hosted an industry session featuring media expert and alumnus, Amirul Hafiz Muhd Firdaus Abong, better known as thoruss on social media.

Amirul, a distinguished content creator and Lead of Content Creation and Multimedia Design at a leading local TV station, enthralled Foundation and Diploma students with his in-depth look at the dynamic world of content creation.

The session offered a comprehensive journey, from the spark of an idea to the final stages of post-production.

Amirul, sharing his extensive experience, stressed the critical importance of creativity, technical expertise, and staying ahead of the curve to craft engaging TV content.

“Returning to Curtin Malaysia as an alumnus and sharing my experiences with current students is incredibly rewarding.

“It’s an honour to give back to the university and hopefully inspire the future leaders of the media industry,” he said.

First-year Diploma of Media Studies student, Maybelle Myra Tay Micheal Tay, described it as an eye-opening experience into the workings of the industry.

Final-year student Adlynna Batrisyia Ahmadul Adi said that gaining an insider’s perspective was invaluable and would greatly prepare her for the internship.

Peter Jamba, Associate Teaching Fellow for the Foundation in Arts and Diploma of Media Studies, applauded the event.

“Having alumni like Amirul share their professional journeys and insights bridges the gap between our curriculum and the evolving demands of the media industry.

“These sessions are instrumental in equipping our students with the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers,” he said.

The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, allowing students to interact directly with Amirul and gain a deeper understanding of the media landscape.
