SIBU: The ambitious Sibu Urban Renewal Project will transform over 500 acres into a world-class urban area.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian said that the project’s scale extends far beyond creating a mere park, aiming instead for comprehensive city development.

“A lot of people say they can’t see anything regarding the project’s progress. However, rushing the construction to complete it within a year would only perpetuate existing issues, such as flooding. Thus, a deliberate pace is essential, and significant financial resources have already been allocated, with over RM20 million spent on consultancy fees to Danish firm Ramboll and local partners,” he said at the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Chinese New Year (CNY) open house at Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor’s Hall, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) here today (Feb 17).

Therefore Dr. Sim urged for public patience and collaboration, given the misinformation surrounding the project’s timeline.

“I beg your understanding and apologise for the delays. Assertions that the project could be completed in three months are simply misleading. We are not merely building a park; we are constructing a city spanning at least 500 acres,” he added.
