KUCHING: The unwavering leadership and vision of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg have been instrumental in steering Sarawak towards a dynamic digital economy.

Speaking during the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2024 Gala Dinner, Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi expressed gratitude for the Premier’s commitment to the state’s digital transformation journey.

“This journey towards a vibrant digital economy is a testament to the Premier’s foresight.

“His vision of a prosperous Sarawak has been the cornerstone of our journey in embracing digital transformation.

“It is through his dedication that we stand here today, celebrating our progress,” he said during the event at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night (Oct 17).

The seventh edition of IDECS gathered over 2,500 participants in the city, exploring the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in driving sustainable development.

Julaihi noted that IDECS has become a vital platform for Sarawak — a stage where ideas meet innovation, where collaboration takes root, and where the future is shaped.

Each year, he said the conference reinforces collective commitment to harnessing the power of technology to transform the economy and uplift the community.

“Partnerships play a critical role in navigating the complexities of the digital economy.

“Collaborative efforts allow for talent development, knowledge sharing, and market expansion, while pooling resources and expertise creates innovative solutions and seamless customer experiences.

“By working together, Sarawak can maintain global competitiveness and drive meaningful, long-term progress,” he said.

He urged industry leaders, entrepreneurs, academics, and policymakers to actively engage in advancing the theme of  ‘AI for Sustainable Development: Navigating the Green and Circular Future’.

Julaihi said the unique expertise is essential to transforming innovative ideas into actions that promote sustainable growth and environmental stewardship.

“Together, we can ensure Sarawak thrives as a hub for green digital excellence, where every effort contributes to building a more sustainable future,” he said.
