KUCHING: The crime rate in Sarawak from January to October this year decreased by 4.39 percent compared to the corresponding period last year, said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail.
He revealed this at a press conference after the handing over of duties from outgoing Police Deputy Commissioner of Sarawak Datuk Dev Kumar M.M Sree to his successor former state special branch chief SAC Mohd Hairuddin Che Hamid at the Senior Officer Mess, Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) here today.
He also added that for violent crimes also dropped by 13.15 percent, while property crimes decreased by 2.85 percent.
Aidi also revealed that 4,924 criminal cases were reported in the state, which were less than the threshold set by Bukit Aman.
“This is mainly due to the movement control order (MCO) with people more likely to stay at home,” he added.
Aidi said the police were always ready for instructions and directives issued by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on inter-district travel ban.
“Currently, there is only enhanced movement control order (Emco) at Kampung Haji Baki – which is more for active case detection (ACD),” he explained.
