LIMBANG: The Limbang Magistrate’s Court yesterday meted a sentence of two years jail each to five Brunei male citizens who were charged with rough treatment of Immigration officials and Rela personnel at the Tedungan CIQ last Wednesday.
Magistrate Mohd Hafizi Abdul Halim meted the sentence to Abdul Hakim Muhammad Irwan 23, Md Shahril Hazmin Sabli, 23, Abdul Hafiz Muhammad Irwan, 28, Muhammad Khairuddin Othman, 30, and
Muhammad Fairuz Rezuan Farizal, 22.
All the accused were present during the sentencing at Limbang Magistrate’s Court. They were escorted to the court to face three charges. All the accused were not represented whereas the prosecution was done by Police Prosecuting Officer Inspector Sivanesrawan a/l Nadaraja.
On the basic facts of the case, the five of them were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Court. They were sentenced to a jail term of eight months and fined RM2,000 each.
For the charge under Section 353 of the Penal Court (criminal intimidation to scare public officers), they were sentenced to 12 months jail and fined RM2,000 each.
All the five were also sentenced to four months jail and fined RM2,000 each for offence under Section 447 of the Penal Court (trespassing).
The sentence by the Magistrate’s Court ruled that the imprisonment to start from the date of their arrest last Thursday. Should they fail to pay the fine, their jail term would be extended to a further four months, in lieu of the fine.
