SPAOH: Visitors to the Paku River here will get to see crocodiles up close in future.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas hopes this activity will spur tourism in this small town in the Betong Division, and wants it included in Sarawak’s tourism calendar.

The magnificent creatures have been sighted in the river, which is also teeming with freshwater prawns.

“I have in mind a plan where people can feed crocodiles or see the crocodiles at certain times from the new waterfront,” he said after visiting the Spaoh Riverfront project today.

“I believe this will be an attraction and can generate income to the local community.”

On the RM4.9mil project fronting the Paku River, Uggah said it was expected to be ready in 18 months from January this year.

“The project will comprise a promenade, gazebo and a playground, among others.”

It is part of a development project package worth more than RM30 mln allocated to the sub-district this year.
