12TH STATE ELECTION

SIBU: It is important to ensure that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) wins in the coming 12th State Election in order for all planned development projects are implemented, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Julaihi Narawi.

He assured that Sarawak government under GPS was capable of carrying out the infrastructure development including bridges, coastal roads and many more.

“To provide better connectivity for the people, the government is committed in the construction of seven bridges namely Rambungan Bridge, Batang Lupar Bridge, Saribas Bridge, Sungai Krian Bridge, Paloh Bridge, Muara Lassa Bridge and Igan Bridge,” he said when delivering his working paper entitled ‘Infrastructure Development’ at the PBB Sibu Convention on Saturday.

He said beside the bridges, the other components of the coastal road project was the construction of the ‘missing link’ which included Jalan Pasi, Sarikei, Tanjung Manis, Mukah including Kuala Kemena Bridge and a second route from Kuching to Samarahan including the Sungai Sarawak Bridge in Demak Laut.

“We take note of the issues raised by the people on the existing coastal road where they said the road is not in good condition and there are potholes.

“That is why the Sarawak government decided to improve the existing coastal road stretching 331 kilometres from Sematan to the northern region of the state,” he said.

Julaihi, who is also Infrastructure and Port Development Assistant Minister added the Sarawak government had allocated RM50 million annually to finance ferry services in the state.

“In an effort to reduce the burden of the people who uses the ferry services, the state government decided to fix the ferry rate at only RM1 for the ferry users,” he said.

He said this was to enable people to move from one place to another while waiting for the bridges to be completed.
