KUCHING: The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2024 in London was not merely a gathering for medical professionals but also a crucial platform for networking and collaboration, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian.

He said participants of the congress have the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences, and also strengthen ties with fellow professionals from all over the world, including those from Sarawak and Malaysia who are dedicated to the field of cardiovascular health.

“The ESC Congress serves as an important venue not only for scientific learning and discourse but also for engaging with Sarawakians and Malaysians from various parts of the world.

“This gathering has the potential to inspire young cardiologists, like Dr. Alan Foong, who was first met at ESC 2004 in Munich.

“Dr. Foong chose to return to Sarawak and continue his career in the public health system. Today, he is the Senior Cardiologist at the Sarawak Heart Centre, Head of the Clinical Research Centre, President of the National Heart Association and the Global Chair of the ACC’s Global AMI initiatives,” he said in a post on his official Facebook on Sunday.

Beyond scientific sessions, Dr Sim added that the congress provides a forum for important discussions with medical device and pharmaceutical industries, key partners in advancing health in Sarawak and contributing to the broader nation-building efforts.

“I am also honoured to co-chair the session on “Mapping Cardiovascular Health: Risk Factors, Interventions, and Geographic Insights,” highlighting my commitment in improving cardiovascular health outcomes both locally and globally,” said Dr Sim.
