SERIAN: To become a developed country, it is crucial to produce human capitals with high skills.
Serian incumbent Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem noted that he had long planned to establish a platform for the production of skilled labour in the Serian division.
As he previously has served as the Human Resources minister, he said has envisioned for such institutions to be built.
He lamented on the delayed project of Serian Industrial Training Institute (ILP), which was postponed for some period due to COVID-19 pandemic, and said it was one of his efforts to achieve the goal.
“Having a high-skilled work force is important, and that ILP is one of my own endeavours to generate skilled human capital.
“The two-year hiatus was a waste of time. The project couldn’t be completed on track. Now it’s at 85 per cent completion. It would have been operational now if not for the pandemic,” he said.
He told reporters this when asked about the development in Serian since the past five years during the launch of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) P.199 Serian Machinery at Kampung Pichin here yesterday.
He dwelled on those who had claimed Serian hadn’t progressed and said it’s whether one is ignorant or genuinely does not want to see what Serian has accomplished.
“Although we are the youngest division in the whole of Sarawak, in a short time, a lot has been developed. We can now even see the Serian Sarawak Administration Centre.
“Soon, we would also have a new Type 3 (KK3) health clinic. It will include specialist doctors. There is only one minor drawback: KK3 is only available to outpatients.
“Apart from that, we have built many rural primary schools that looked like a college, not like a primary school.
“In Serian, there is no village that cannot be reached by a paved road. All the roads have been paved. That is an achievement,” he said.
As such, Riot who is the GPS candidate for Serian seat noted that the GPS has demonstrated evidence of their accomplishments and performance.
He is resolved to continue to do his best for improvement and development in the Serian parliamentary constituency for the next five years, if elected.
