KUCHING: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) is committed to developing quality electronic sports (esports) athletes at Public and Private Institutes of Higher Education level (IPTA / IPTS).

Director of the Youth and Sports Department (JBS) Lamat Nyalau said the initiative is crucial in producing e-sports athletes who can compete at international level.

“Therefore, we commend Kuching Community College’s move in organising an e-sports competition during the Student Talent Exploration Carnival.

“We see that this effort is able to support the vision of KBS in achieving success in the development of the sport in this country, thereby supporting the government’s initiative to make Malaysia a Sporting Nation,” he said.

His text of speech was read by representative Hazwan Salleh Baihaki at the Student Talent Exploration Carnival in conjunction with the 22nd Anniversary of Kuching Community College at Kuching Community College here today (October 8).

Adding on, he stressed that effective leadership and management play important roles in realising this vision.

“For that, KBS aims to foster leadership and management skills among students who are involved in this sport, and we strive to involve IPT students and staff comprehensively in dynamic electronic sports.

“Therefore, should the training staff require assistance, we are happy to provide training for free to equip them with necessary skills to elevate the athletes to international levels.

“We believe that through a strong collaboration between IPT and KBS, we can achieve what we want,” he said.

Lamat also highlighted the potentials of esports, especially in improving mental health among the younger generations.

He expressed confidence that through their involvement in such dynamic esports, it can improve the mental and emotional aspects of the players.
