The popularity of New Age beliefs, yoga, mindfulness and alternative medicine over recent years has fuelled a resurgence of interest in crystal healing. Beautiful and colourful, crystals and gems are more than meets the eye. Many people believed that the energy emitted by these could be beneficial in everyday life.

More than just a decorative piece

Crystals and gems are brightly coloured ornamental stones that are said to emit a high source of energy garnered from the earth, moon, and sun centuries ago. They are believed to consist of different elements or compounds, which our bodies react to in various ways.

Teo Hui Hui, pious when it comes to these shiny, bright objects, first discovered them during her young adult days. As she admired the stones for their beauty, she began a sturdy collection, purchasing stones from various local sellers. And once she was able to travel around, she began collecting stones from all over the world.

A graduate in accounting, Teo revealed that she fell ill during her time working for an accounting firm. “I contracted a deadly disease when I was in my 30s. That was also when I started to look at crystals as more than a decorative piece but as a healing object. I felt a spiritual calling. I knew I had to quit my job to help others through the energy of these crystals.”

Since then, the 56-year-old has travelled all over in search of the most precious stones. Having to strike a balance between healing others using the crystals and her travels, Teo said her collections came from every corner of the world.

“The vast majority of the stones I gathered are from Thailand and China. That is where these crystals are cut. Meanwhile, most crystals are produced in Brazil. The stones are great gifts from the earth, but they can also be dangerous when used wrongly.”

According to Teo, each user’s birthdate is connected to a crystal. When worn wrongly, it may have negative consequences. “For example, some clients want to buy a ‘hot’ crystal. If their birthday is on a ‘heaty’ day, then they will get sick. They are more likely to cough, have dry eyes, and have a bad temper.

“Meanwhile, for those who are born on a ‘cold’ birthdate, if they were to use jade, then they would have pain everywhere on the body as jade is a ‘cold’ type of crystal,” shared Teo.

A 25-year journey

Once she began her journey of meddling with these precious stones, Teo did an in-depth study of the universe. She also preaches and teaches about all the things that have great energy. “I have been here (at Bishopsgate, Kuching) for 25 years, proving to my clients what energy is. My job is to find alternative healing for people who are ‘sick’.”

Aside from crystals and gemstones, Teo also collected woods such as raja kayu, belian, gaharu, black wood and others. Explaining further how each object can affect a person’s energy level, she revealed that each individual comprises seven chakras of their own.

“Over the years, I’ve focused on the seven chakras. My job is to turn all the chakras in a clockwise direction. If one particular chakra goes anticlockwise, it is out of tune in the body. That is when the problems arise,” she said.

Having spent almost three decades meeting different people and introducing them to alternative healing, Teo said that these experiences have developed her understanding and spiritual self. “Chanting and practising gratitude to the respective organ involved when sick can help make peace with the body. But by using crystals as a tool to help, it can enhance the chanting process.”

Activating the healing crystals

When met at her shop, ‘The Natural Crystal Healing House’ at Bishopgate, Teo demonstrated the process of activating the healing crystals. She began by asking for the client’s birth date while also getting to know their horoscope and zodiac. Then, she will reveal which chakra is out of tune and pinpoint it for the client’s feedback.

“I will then assemble the best crystals on strings to become a bracelet. When I am done, I’ll ask them to hold the crystals in their hands to be healed immediately. They should feel the change in their body’s vibration.”

After she proved that the particular crystals could tune the chakra of the person, Teo proceeded to cleanse the crystals. She also enhances it by smudging the bracelet in a fire-safe bowl. This process is said to clear any inharmonious vibrations and restore its natural energy.

“Then I’ll give it back to the client for another hold to see if the change has progressed. I will also inquire further about any changes or experiences the client has had while holding the crystal. By doing this, I will know that the crystals match their birthdate,” she explained.

Teo shared that a bracelet can cost an average of RM50. The price factor for these precious stones lies in their different types — quartz, ore, amethyst, moonstones, selenite and others — which are usually chosen to match the client’s energy and chakras.

Although her foray is into these crystals and gemstones, Teo shared that she also lends her shoulder to any problems that her clients face. In the midst of choosing the right stones, she would also advise them on their next direction in life. A genuine person who is passionate about healing others through this method, Teo is always seated and ready to greet her next client, either through a walk-in or via Whatsapp at 013-8277678.
