KUCHING: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) Sarawak, is organising a unique Spicy Porridge Distribution Programme in conjunction with the Ramadan Ihya programme.
Chairman of CUEPACS Sarawak Jubilee Jineh, in a statement yesterday, said the event took take place at the CUEPACS Sarawak State Office located at Jalan Bampfylde here and aimed at engaging with the community and observing the spirit of Ramadan.
“This is the first time such a programme is being organised by CUEPACS Sarawak to strengthen the relationship between public servants and the community in the state.
“Members of the public passing by the premises of the CUEPACS Sarawak State Office have the opportunity to receive spicy porridge as a gesture of goodwill during the holy month of Ramadan,” he said..
In addition to the programme, he said CUEPACS also organised an Iftar programme in the evening, which commenced with a brief Ramadan reminder, followed by recitation of prayers, breaking-of-fast, and congregational Maghrib and Tarawih prayers
He added that the Iftar programme provided an excellent opportunity for all members of the CUEPACS to get to know each other better and strengthen their bonds of brotherhood.
He further expressed his support on the decision by the Sarawak state government not to provide special aid for public servants in conjunction with celebrations.
He commended Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for the unwavering concern for the welfare of public servants in the state and expressed gratitude for the special financial incentives provided in recent years, making Sarawak the first state in the country to provide such incentives to federal civil servants, numbering nearly 100,000.
He also appealed to the Sarawak government to consider increasing the amount of the special financial incentive from RM500 to RM600, and urged all public servants in the state to carry out their duties with full responsibility, dedication, transparency, and integrity for the sustainability and progress of Sarawak towards the year 2030.
