PUTRAJAYA: The Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) Sarawak wants the government to tackle the issues faced by civil servants in the state.
Vice president Zulkiflee Sebli highlighted the engagement session held yesterday (Jan 23) with the Public Service Department (JPA), aimed at bringing attention to the challenges encountered by Sarawak civil servants, especially those related to the Public Service Compensation System Review (SPPA).
He said the focus was on proposing viable solutions to enhance the well-being of civil servants in both federal and state departments and agencies.
Zulkiflee was optimistic that the concerns raised during the session could be considered in the ongoing study and eventually integrated into the SSPA.
Several key issues were brought to the forefront during the engagement session, including outdated living quarters, teacher shortage caused by non-reporting at duty stations, special allowances for sewing wages under Scheme U, and airfare allowances, especially for Sarawakians working far from their home districts.
Zulkiflee, who is also Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) chief, thanked Public Services (KPPA) director-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz for his positive response during the recent meeting.
The engagement session, an integral part of the SPPA, featured presentations from various Cuepacs sections in separate meetings chaired by senior JPA officers.
Key figures present at the session were Cuepacs secretary general Abdul Rahman Nordin and deputy secretaries general Mohd Reostam Dzahar and Mohd Zool Asmani Mahmood.
