KUCHING: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) Malaysia wants a collective agreement (CA) with the government on salary increases for civil servants.
Its president Datuk Azih Muda said Cuepacs would bring up the issue with the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng soon.
He said this to reporters after officiating at the 2019 – 2022 triennial general meeting of Cuepacs Sarawak held at its office in Bamfylde Road here yesterday.
Azih noted that members of private sector employees’ unions which have CA with their employers were benefitting from salary increases to the envy of civil servants.
“The private sector such as bank employees and Telekom Malaysia employees’ unions which recently signed collective agreements with their employers have benefitted from increased salaries of up to 3.3 per cent,” he said.
He mentioned that any pay rise in the civil service would not only benefit the civil servants but the national economy as a whole.
On the TGM, Azih said it was a platform for Cuepacs to choose leaders who fight for the rights of workers and not for self-glorification.
“We want leaders who listen to the problems faced by the union members and fight for everyone, not someone who does not have the qualities of being a leader,” he said.
Also present at the TGM were Cuepacs Sarawak president Ahmad Malie and secretary-general Adnan Mat.
