KUCHING: The Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) represents the crucial skills that the state must nurture, particularly when aiming to propel state transformation through the establishment of high-value economic engines and the implementation of a top talent development system.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian emphasized that as the state focuses on enhancing the problem-solving capabilities of Sarawakians, the government acknowledges the immense benefits of learning TRIZ to identify and implement optimal solutions.

“Beyond this, we must also foster a passion for problem-solving among our fellow Sarawakians, embracing failures as essential components that pave the way for our success.

“I firmly believe that by equipping Sarawakians with TRIZ skills and fostering innovative thinking, we are already on the path to victory, especially given that Sarawak can proudly claim the largest number of TRIZ practitioners in Malaysia,” he remarked.

Dr Sim conveyed this message through a text speech delivered by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng at the 19th International TRIZfest 2024 Conference held at Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) Digital Village in Kuching on September 4.

He highlighted that Sarawak is already taking proactive measures to ensure that learners are poised to compete on the global stage, equipping them with the necessary skills to engage in global business and master the languages of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

“Nevertheless, transformation is fraught with challenges and limitations, compelling us to constantly seek efficient solutions to complex problems without compromising on their quality,” he added.

Moreover, Dr. Sim underscored that one of the most widely acknowledged and effective approaches to surmounting challenges involves leveraging the collective wisdom of numerous inventors who have contributed their skills and expertise to develop innovative ways of problem-solving.

“By delving into the patent database and distilling the common thinking patterns of these visionaries, TRIZ practitioners demonstrate their ability to think beyond conventional boundaries, devising unique strategies that not only enhance our cognitive processes but also fuel our drive to refine and perfect solutions for diverse problems,” he elaborated.

Meanwhile, Dr Sergey Yatsunenko, President of the International TRIZ Association (MATRIZ), expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to host the International TRIZ Conference and the unwavering support extended by the Sarawak government towards collaborative efforts with Malaysia TRIZ, MyTRIZ, Sarawak TRIZ, and University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), underscoring their shared dedication to cultivating innovative thinking and positioning Malaysia and Sarawak as pioneers in technological advancement and inventive problem-solving.

The conference, themed “Innovate with TRIZ and AI for Sustainable Global Growth,” is scheduled to take place from September 4 to 6.
