KUCHING: The enchanting tunes of Borneo mesmerised the crowd at the Kuching Waterfront here last night (October 28) during the spectacular ‘Sound of Borneo: Rhythm of Sarawak’ event.

The concert, held in conjunction with the Sarawak Regatta and Dragon Boat Festival, featured 11 Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) Sape Ambassadors alongside the Perintis Orkestra Tradisi Remaja Sarawak (POTRES).

According to YPS, the Sape Ambassadors were representatives from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, a dynamic ensemble representing the rich tapestry of Malaysia’s ethnic diversity.

The concert showcased a united front among diverse ethnic groups, using Sape as a tool to foster harmony and togetherness within the community.

The performers included the Rungus tribe from Sabah and an Indian from Selangor, accompanied by their local peers from various ethnic groups including Iban, Bidayuh, Malay, Melanau, Kenyah, Punan, and Chinese.

YPS deputy chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, YPS chief executive Datuk Aloysius J Dris, and Majlis Seni Sarawak (MSS) chief executive officer Dayang Mariana Abang Bolhassan were among those present.
