TATAU: The 2024 Tatau Festival is poised to bring in an estimated income of around RM4 to RM5 million to the local economy.

In the words of the Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Sri John Sikie Tayai, the significance of the event in bolstering and nurturing the local community’s economy, and how this festival plays a pivotal role in showcasing the essence of local culture and arts, cannot be overstated.

The festival not only showcases water sports competitions but also spotlights the culture, arts, and handicrafts of the local community.

A total of 107 stalls have been set up throughout the festival, which is scheduled to run from 5th to 15th September.

It is expected to draw around 80,000 visitors, offering more than 30 engaging events, including exhibitions of local handicrafts and cultural products from the Tatau and neighbouring communities.

“This year, the 2024 Pesta Tatau Regatta has seen 97 entries with 100 powerboats in competition, marking a 33% increase compared to the previous year, which saw only 75 powerboats participating.

Simultaneously, he commended the tireless efforts of the Tatau Festival organizing committee in ensuring the seamless execution of the two-week-long extravaganza.
