MIRI: As Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, the campus commemorates a significant milestone alongside the global Curtin community, with Curtin University once again being named among the top one per cent of universities in the world in the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2024.

Curtin University’s inclusion in the top tier of over 2,500 universities globally underscores its unwavering commitment to academic and research excellence across all its Australian and global campuses.

Released annually by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, the ARWU ranks the top 1,000 universities based on rigorous criteria, including alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers, and articles published in prestigious journals such as Nature and Science.

Professor Simon Leunig, Curtin Malaysia’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, President, and Chief Executive, expressed pride in Curtin’s continued success, noting how this achievement elevates the reputation of Curtin Malaysia, Curtin University’s largest international campus and a key player in the university’s global network.

“This recognition is not just a testament to Curtin University’s exceptional research and teaching standards but also highlights the contributions of our campus in driving these achievements.

“As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, this global ranking reinforces our standing as a world-class institution right here in Borneo, offering our students a truly international educational experience.

“It also reaffirms our status as Borneo’s most highly-ranked institution,” Prof. Leunig said.

Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne also highlighted the significance of Curtin’s ranking.

“It is especially pleasing to see Curtin’s strong research record and strength in science recognised on the world stage. Curtin’s performance in the ARWU shows we are at the forefront of producing research and graduates relevant not only to Australia’s future but also of international significance,” said Prof. Hayne.

“Whether it’s in critical minerals, the clean energy transition, national resilience and security, radio astronomy, or agriculture, this list shows our dedicated and passionate researchers, teaching staff, and students are committed to making a real difference to people around the globe,” she added.

The campus remains committed to delivering innovative, industry-aligned education while contributing to global solutions through research and development.
