MIRI: The School of Pre-University and Continuing Education (SPACE) at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently conducted mathematics workshops for students from two secondary schools here.

The workshops featured an array of interactive activities, including mentor-led sessions,Mathematics Kahoot quizzes, and a talk on Mathematics and Real-world Problems by Associate Professor Jobrun Nandong, associate professor of chemical engineering at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science.

With practical SPM mathematics practice questions, these workshops provided a comprehensive learning experience.

The first workshop at SMK Pujut on April 27 welcomed 50 students, and the second at SMK Merbau saw 80 students participating.

Jameson Malang, a teaching fellow at SPACE, emphasised the importance of promoting STEM (science, technology,engineering, and mathematics) education in alignment with Malaysia’s aspirations for the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

He explained that the programme empowers secondary school students through dynamic workshops, fostering a deep understanding and passion for mathematics.

Jameson said the programme sought to deepen students’ understanding of fundamental mathematical principles, boost their confidence, and demonstrate the practical applications of mathematics in daily life and various industries.
