MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently hosted an academic excellence bootcamp for its incoming students, organised by the Faculty of Business Learning and Teaching Committee.

The bootcamp aimed to facilitate a seamless transition into university learning and teaching, stressing academic integrity and professional development.

The programme, enriched with industry insights and practical workshops, provided a holistic approach to student orientation.

Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching at the Faculty of Business Dr Fayrene Chieng Yew Leh delivered the opening speech, focusing on Academic Integrity and the Use of Gen-AI, shedding light on the importance of upholding ethical behavior in academia and leveraging cutting-edge technologies responsibly.

Industry professionals Kenny Hii Shin Yao and Bryan Chia delivered engaging talks.

Hii, a Curtin alumnus and senior relationship manager at AmSignature Priority Banking Sarawak, stressed the impact of class attendance on professional success.

Chia, general manager of Eye (1) Recycle Sdn Bhd, shared insights on transitioning from campus to career, stressing the significance of networking and skills development.

Nora Hii, acting head of Library and Learning Commons, facilitated a workshop on using library facilities and online resources, focusing on referencing and effective database usage.

Dr. Ting Qian Hui, student experience coordinator, concluded the bootcamp with guidance on study planning and career strategising, empowering students to align their academic pursuits with long-term goals.

Meanwhile, Dean of the Faculty of Business Professor Pauline Ho shedded light on the importance of upholding ethical behavior in academia and leveraging cutting-edge technologies responsibly.

She said the event was a testament to the university’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded professionals.

She thanked the speakers and facilitators for their contributions.
