MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently hosted its inaugural networking competition aimed at highlighting the university’s dedication to teaching innovation and excellence.
The competition was organised by the Computing Nation Club, Curtin Malaysia’s student-run academic club for students interested in computing, with support from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at its Faculty of Engineering and Science.
The event provided a platform for students from various disciplines, including computer systems and networking, cyber security, electrical engineering, software engineering, and business, to gain valuable insights into the world of computer networking.
The competition centred around the use of CISCO Packet Tracer, a versatile simulation tool that allows students and professionals to design, configure, and troubleshoot networks, and featured a series of challenging tasks and scenarios, designed to test the students’ knowledge, skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Dr Han Yi Chiew, coordinator of the Bachelor of Technology in Computer Systems and Networking programme, said such initiatives not only introduce students from various disciplines to the world of computer networking but also enrich their cross-disciplinary knowledge and learning experience at Curtin Malaysia.
Furthermore, those enrolling in the Bachelor of Technology in Computer Systems and Networking get to work with CISCO networking equipment in the Faculty of Engineering and Science’s state-of-the-art networking laboratory, as well as gain CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certifications, which are essential in the ever-evolving field of IT and computer networking.
