MIRI: A dedicated team of lecturers from Curtin University Malaysia spent time mentoring and tutoring orphaned children here for free over three months from March.
This outreach initiative at the Methodist Children’s Home, involved lecturers from its Faculty of Engineering and Science.
Led by Dr. Lynn Ling Yew Hua, Dr Evelyn Chiong Tung, Dr Ho Jie Min, and Wendy Law Li Ling, the team delivered personalised educational support aimed at empowering the children and enhancing their academic journeys.
“In celebration of our 25 years of establishment in Malaysia, we are proud to engage in meaningful community initiatives that reflect our commitment to making a positive impact,” said Dr Ling.
“By offering our time and expertise to the children at the Miri Methodist Children’s Home, we hope to inspire and empower them to realise their full potential.”
The mentoring and tutoring sessions involved a variety of subjects including mathematics, science, language, art, and social studies.
“We are deeply grateful to Curtin Malaysia for their generosity and commitment to supporting our children,” said Shirley Liew, a representative from the Home.
“We are confident that this partnership will greatly benefit our children academically and personally,” she added.
