MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is hosting two exchange students from Curtin University’s main campus in Perth on the New Colombo Plan Mobility Programme until the end of July.
Economics and marketing students Liam Varga and Lachlan Carroll from Curtin University in Perth are in Miri for a month-long student placement and internship with the Miri Port Authority.
According to Head of the Department of Management at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business, Dr Stephen Sim, it was an honour for Curtin Malaysia — Curtin’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia — to host the two students in collaboration with the Miri Port Authority.
He said this was following enormous effort and collaboration after months of planning between the Faculty of Business and the Miri Port Authority.
Their exchange is being funded by the Australian Department of Education and Training in consultation with the New Colombo Plan Secretariat in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Sim said the two students are suitably placed in their field of economics and marketing to gain a better understanding of the operations and business of the Miri Port, a key player in the development of trade in Sarawak and an important feeder port linking Sarawak’s northern region with the rest of the world.
“Most importantly, their time here will be a great opportunity to immerse in the diverse Sarawakian culture,” added Sim.
