MIRI: A total of 15 Bachelor of Communications students from Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) were exposed to the dynamic world of broadcasting in Sarawak by visiting several media outlets in Kuching.
Curtin Malaysia’s Media and Communication Department Head Dr Ngu Ik Ying said during their trip, the students visited and held engagements with the Sarawak Media Group (SMG), TVS and Cats FM.
“The students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the day-to-day operations, gaining first-hand experience of various aspects of broadcasting, production, and media management,” she said in a statement.
Ngu said the students also engaged in interactive sessions with industry professionals, learning about the latest trends, technologies, and challenges facing the broadcasting industry in Sarawak.
“The visits here were an eye-opening experience for our students, allowing them to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the field of communications.
“By witnessing the inner workings of the two companies, our students have gained valuable insights that will undoubtedly enrich their academic journey and future careers,” she said.
Ngu said the experience obtained from the visit was beneficial to the course development as well as to enhance the institution’s Bachelor of Communications syllabus.
“We want our syllabus to be as relevant and as closely aligned to the industry needs as possible. This ensures that our students are job-ready and highly employable when they graduate.
“In fact, we have had quite a number of graduates being employed in the broadcasting industry in Sarawak, West Malaysia, and abroad, through the years,” she added.
