MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia’s Faculty of Business and UOB Malaysia recently organised a career awareness event at its campus.
The event aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the banking and finance industries while guiding them in developing the necessary skills and competencies for future careers.
Leading the UOB Malaysia team were vice president of Business Development and manager of Worksite Marketing and Personal Financial Services, as well as UOB Innovation Hub, Violet Ong, and its Human Resources (HR) business partner, Lilian Wong.
In a statement, the university said the event provided valuable insights into UOB Malaysia for students, offering them the opportunity to explore career prospects within the bank.
It also allowed them to network with the UOB Malaysia team and cultivate essential skills for their professional journeys.
An alumni of Curtin Malaysia, Simon Chieng, shared his experience of entering and working in the banking industry during a session at the event.
Chieng also offered guidance to students on forging their own career paths in the industry.
Additionally, the UOB Malaysia team conducted open interviews for business and information technology (IT) students interested in pursuing professional careers with the bank.
They also set up booths to provide financial literacy consultations to the campus community.
Curtin Malaysia staff members were given the chance to enhance their understanding of the banking industry, its future outlook, and investment opportunities through an exclusive sharing session with the UOB Malaysia team and staff from the UOB branch in Miri.
This session was led by Wong Sing Jing, senior vice president for Area Sales (East Malaysia Wealth) and head of Privilege Banking.
Following this, a networking luncheon was held for representatives from UOB and Curtin Malaysia at the campus café.
