KUCHING: Despite the morning drizzle, 2,000 individuals from all walks of life converged at Padang Merdeka for the inaugural Cyber Security Run.

Organised by the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) in line with Cyber Security Awareness Day, the event coincided with the Sarawak Civil Service Innovation Month 2023.

SMA general manager Datuk Dr Anderson Tiong said through the event, the agency aims to build a safer digital environment for all.

“As an agency that empowers the digital economy in Sarawak, we are very concerned about cyber security so that people can avoid becoming victims of cybercrime.

“Hence, this event serves as a platform to educate and empower individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the online world securely,” he said this before flagging off the run this morning (Dec 9).

He said the agency only aimed for 2,000 participants owing to its maiden organisation.

“However, we did not expect such an encouraging response that many contacted us to open additional running slots. We greatly appreciate the response from the people around Kuching City,” he said.
