SIBU: Good news for “dabai” lovers! At Sibu Central Market here, the much-loved dabai fruit has become even more affordable.

While in the past, the fruit had a steep price of RM80 to RM100 per kilogramme, it’s now being sold for as low as RM18 per kilogramme.

During a recent visit to the bustling Sibu Central Market by New Sarawak Tribune, it was observed that the once expensive fruit is now easily affordable for many.

Awie, a 32-year-old dabai seller, explained the change in price. He said the drop was due to an abundant harvest, marking the beginning of the dabai season.

“I get most of my dabai from Song. The fruit is seasonal. When it’s off-season, the prices go up because there’s less of it. But when the dabai season starts, prices naturally come down,” Awie said.

He further said that the earlier high prices were because dabai wasn’t in its season.

Now, you can find dabai priced between RM18 to RM40 per kilogram.

“The difference in prices is due to the quality and size of the fruit. Those who really love dabai are ready to pay more for the best quality,” he added.
