THE construction of connecting roads in Baleh’s constituency will resolve issues of reliance on periodically maintained logging roads that pose a danger to the people says Nicholas Kudi Jantai (GPS-Baleh).
Nicholas added that roads are an issue in his constituency that requires the Sarawak government’s immediate attention in order to build main roads connecting all settlements.
Nicholas also stated in the august house on Friday (Nov 25) that there are some timber concession sub-contractors who ignore local residents’ requests to repair damaged roads and temporary bridges.
“The access road from Rumah Timothy and Rumah Ujan (Asun) in Nanga Mujong to Bandar Baru Tunoh, Bukit Mabong District which is still in the process of awaiting the approval of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
“Access road length of 2.8 km from Jalan Baleh HEP to Jalan Sungai Paku-Majau which will connect 16 longhouses and two schools.
“The alternative 37 km road that connects the Nanga Gaat, Merotai, Antawau road to Tunoh Township via the Nanga Serangkang log road needs to be upgraded to facilitate the transport of building materials to Tunoh as well as facilitate the connection of Medium Voltage Covered (MVC) to the Bukit Mabong District administration centre in Tunoh,” he said.
Other issues raised included the construction of a bridge across Batang Baleh in Nanga Gaat and Sungai Tunoh, roads at Jalan Rumah Gare Sungai Kain Phase 2, and flooding roads in Long Singut.
“I hope that all the roads that I have mentioned can be realised by the Sarawak government so that the people in my area will no longer be worried when the rainy season arrives,” he said.
