KUCHING: Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen has pledged to allocate annual funding and specific project grants to Masjid Nurul Ashikin in Kampung Lidah Tanah to facilitate the execution of the mosque’s planned activities.

Chong, in his Facebook post yesterday (Jan 9), said the mosque is gearing up for 29 events this year, with a significant portion of the funding relying on public donations.

He said the proposed activities primarily aim to benefit children and the elderly within the community.

“Among the numerous programmes, the Free Primary School Student Nutritional Breakfast and Mathematics Enhancement Camp caught my attention.

“As someone deeply committed to education, especially for children, I find these programmes particularly meaningful. The importance of a nutritious breakfast in enhancing children’s learning efficiency cannot be overstated,” he said.

Furthermore, Masjid Nurul Ashikin chairman Baki Leh brought attention to the economic challenges faced by two families in Kampung Lidah Tanah. Chong expressed his concern and is committed to exploring avenues for assisting these struggling families.

Their discussion also extended to addressing issues such as drug abuse and the potential involvement of youth in illicit activities.

To this end, Chong stressed not only the importance of strengthening law enforcement but also the need to focus on youth education and preventive measures.

“This dual strategy will effectively curb the spread of illegal activities within the rural community,” he added.
