KUCHING: Good governance and shared prosperity are among the focus emphasised in Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak manifesto for the upcoming general election, said its chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
Chong, who is also Stampin incumbent said the rakyat are still struggling to recover their economic status post Covid-19.
“Looking at the current situation in the country, there is a development and wealth gap between the Peninsula and Sarawak.
Aside from the lower-income (B40) group, Chong pointed out that the middle-income (M40) group are also affected because of the pandemic.
“A big portion of them (M40) have moved down to B40 status, in terms of purchasing power and their income.”
Chong said this when met by reporters at DAP headquarters after the handing over the incentives to outstanding Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) students, yesterday (Oct 30).
He also stressed the need for good government administration for fair wealth and income distribution.
When asked to comment on Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) confidence in winning all 31 parliamentary seats in the 15th general election (GE15), Chong said he will leave it to the rakyat to decide.
“I think the people of Sarawak are not inclined towards one party and they have better understanding of democracy now,” he added.
