KUCHING: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), claims that Alice Lau Kiong Yieng (DAP-Lanang) has put fear in the people of Sarawak through her recent question posed in parliament.
Lau had reportedly asked what actions would be taken against those calling for secession in Sarawak and whether such secession was allowed under the Federal Constitution and Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“Since the issue was brought up by Alice, Sarawak’s independence has become a hot issue and especially after the Sarawak government gazetted July 22 as Independence Day,” said PBK president Voon Lee Shan.
Voon claimed that rumours had spread like ‘wildfire’ that he (Voon) and a few activists were ‘under the watchful eyes of the authority and will be put under arrest’.
“I don’t respond to such rumour because I know it has been created by those who are not happy with how we try to educate the public on the rights of Sabah and Sarawak to gain independence by way of domestic and international laws,” he explained.
Voon denied that he had received an arrest warrant or warning from the relevant authority, adding that any rumours to the effect were not true.
Meanwhile, Voon revealed that some activists who organised and participated in the 722 rally during Sarawak Day at the Padang Merdeka here last Monday had been called up by the police for questioning.
“I was informed that permit and permission were given to them to use the Padang Merdeka for the rally.
“Therefore, for the police to haul them up for questioning shows that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government has no respect for the civil rights of Sarawakians,” he remarked.
