KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak is suspending all its political activities involving human contact with effect from Friday until Oct 18, in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases.
Its chairman Chong Chieng Jen said that walkabouts in public places, public talks, and gatherings (be they small or large) will all be suspended until Oct 18 when new directives will be issued by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) depending on the situation.
“However, members of the public who need our services and have complaints to be dealt with are free to visit or call our service centres and DAP representatives in person or via phone.
“Our service centres will remain open during the normal office hours and our elected representatives and their assistants will continue to provide services to the public,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
He hoped that this effort would help to flatten the curve and ease the burden of medical staff and frontliners in the battle against the pandemic.
At the same time, Chong expressed gratitude to frontliners for their selfless sacrifice. “Let us work together to overcome the crisis,” he said.
