KUCHING: Voon Lee Shan is not losing precious sleep but does admit to feeling “quite disturbed” by some events in the DAP.
In particular, the Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president cannot quite understand why DAP seems obsessed with destroying SUPP but not other parties like PBB or PRS.
“I am quite disturbed by this strategy and am still searching for the answers,” he said in a press statement yesterday.
Voon also pointed out that one other issue that has always disturbed his mind is why too many good leaders in the DAP have
disappeared from the radar.
He said they have either left on their own or resigned, or were expelled or suspended — quietly.
“Notable among them were Sim Kwang Yang (when he was still alive), Jason Wong Sing Nang (deceased), Dominique Ng Kim Ho, See Chee How, Yong Seng Chen, Dr Ting Chiik Ming, Michael Tiang, Wong Huan Yu, Fong Pau Teck, Yap Hoi Liang, Kung Chin Chin, Tay Wee Wee and Wong Hau Ming. It is very disturbing when members of the public start asking me,” he said.
“Before I joined the party, the late Sim Kwang Yang had advised me to think carefully and warned me that one day I would be expelled or suspended from the party.
“Never had I thought that his words were true, and this happened in 2010 and 2011,” remarked Voon.
Voon said now that he has returned to active politics, he is seeing a lot of things not quite right with DAP.
He said he still remembers seeing a video clip in which state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen told the august House that if Pakatan Harapan (PH) formed the federal government, 50% of revenues collected from Sarawak would be returned to Sarawak.
“He further said Sarawak would get 20% oil and gas royalty, but now more than a year has passed, nothing of that sort is happening.”
Voon also said the Chinese community is still waiting for DAP to get the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) recognised by the federal government.
He said Chong and DAP should concentrate on delivering these promises and to stop insisting that he is still a member of the Malaya-based party when he is now the president of a local party.
“Now, I have a new home in PBK and I find comfort here. The people in the party are happy with me and even give me the key to their house.
“DAP, especially, Chong Chieng Jen and Violet Yong, please leave me alone and let me find happiness in my new home.
“Chong Chieng Jen, Violet Yong and all leaders in DAP must know that I am helping to fight for Sarawak in many areas that they cannot. You see, I put Sarawak first, not Malaya first,” he said.
On the DAP constitution relating to membership, Voon said Clause lll — Membership Rule 3 states that any member of the party shall, on becoming a member of any political party or organisation ancillary or subsidiary thereto, shall cease forthwith to be a
member of the party.
