KUCHING: A house owner in Demak Laut was forced to fire two warning shots in the air on Tuesday night because two men were stealing cables near his house.

The incident occurred at 9.30pm after a security guard informed the house owner that two persons openly told him they had come to steal.

After the shots were fired, police who were informed arrived and caught a suspect while the other fled.

Police arrested the suspect and seized a motorcycle as well as a backpack containing equipment such as knives, wrench, screws, cutters, scissors and torches etc.

The arrested suspect aged 24 was detained. Another accomplice, known as “Boboi”, is on the run.

The house owner told New Sarawak Tribune that the burglars were daring and he wanted to warn them off. He said cable theft happened frequently in the area.
