DARO: Never mind that the recent Sarawak Day celebration last Friday (July 22) in this district was not as grand as in other parts of the state, but the residents here certainly celebrated the meaningful event in their own way and style.

Through its own initiative, Medan Selera Daro for example, held various activities to enliven the occasion for the local community.

According to the Daro Food Court management committee chairman Mohd Faizal Jamiludin, among the activities held was the flying of the Sarawak flag at all the stalls at Medan Selera Daro to commemorate Sarawak Day.

This was followed by a children’s colouring competition for those aged between five and eight years.

“A total of 30 participants have already taken part in this competition and the prizes are fully donated by Sweet Az Zahra (Booth No. 1),” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

Meanwhile, he said there was also a Beyblade mini-competition (top spinning) organised by the Daro Matu Beyblade Club in collaboration with the food court.

“Next, we had the ‘Relaxing Zumba’ exercise for the locals to create awareness on the importance of health.

“In the evening, a karaoke programme was held to provide entertainment for the visitors to make the event livelier,” he explained.

Mohd Faizal was happy to note the spirit of cooperation among the traders to ensure the success of the Sarawak Day events, which he said would spur them to organise more events in the future.

“We at Medan Selera Daro have already agreed to hold various activities in the future so that Medan Selera is always lively for visitors, he said.
