MUKAH: In conjunction with the back-to-school period this week, the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) in the Daro constituency has organised a free haircut programme at Medan Selera Daro.
The programme was held recently from 9.30 am until 3 pm and Saberkas received more than 150 students from around Daro District.
According to Daro state assemblyman Safiee Ahmad, who is also chairman of Saberkas Daro, the programme was one of the annual activities in Saberkas Daro’s event calendar.
“This initiative is to help parents or guardians of students in terms of the cost to cut their child’s hair in preparation for school.
“Programmes like these are often looked forward to by parents to participate and I admit that they also have an impact in helping to ease the burden of parents and guardians,” he told reporters.
Safiee, who is also secretary general of Saberkas Sarawak stated parents and guardians who have more than three school-aged children actually bear quite a high cost for them to go for a haircut.
Saberkas Daro Branch has a Barbershop called Forty Three Barbershop in Medan Selera Daro.
It has become a platform for youths with hair cutting skills to generate income.
Also present at the programme were Masjid Hilir Village chief Mokhtar Hasim, Penghulu Yusuf Bakeri and deputy chairman of Saberkas Daro Branch Mohd Faizal Jamaludin.
