SIBU: Kampung Cina and Pasar Daro Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs) will hold their first 3R recycling programme at Tabika Kie Ming Open Hall, Daro this Sunday.

The event which starts from 12 pm to 4 pm is organised by both JKKKs in collaboration with Matu and Daro District Office.

According to one of the volunteers for the programme Loh Lu Yee, the programme aims to educate more people, especially in rural areas, about the importance of recycling.

Loh also noted that those who are willing to take part in the programme need to sort their recyclable thing properly for the smooth process of the programme.

“Please classify your items such as paper, newspapers, aluminium cans, tin cans, paper boxes, and so on. Aluminium and cans must be cleaned, dried, and put in plastic bags.

“Batteries, old air conditioners, and washing machines are also accepted. Prices differ for different types of waste,” he said.

Loh also said the programme is an activity that parents can do with their children to teach them to love and care for the environment.

“We have succeeded in Sibu, where we do it every month, but for places like Daro it is quite complicated due to the logistical problems,” he said.

However, he stressed that it is not a one-time event in Daro as they strive to organise the programme frequently.
