KUCHING: Over a thousand visitors joined the Hari Raya gathering at Darulhana Patingan Mosque, Kampung No 6 here last Friday evening.
The event was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg. Other guests of honour present were the Chief Minister’s wife Datuk Amar Jumaani Tuanku Bujang, Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) president Datuk Misnu Taha, Patingan Muslim Welfare Trust Board (LAKKMKP) chairman Datuk Abdillah Abdul Rahim and Darulhana Patingan Mosque chairman Zamhari Hashim.
During the gathering, the proposed upgrading of the Darulhana Patingan Mosque was presented in a video clip.
According to Zamhari, some of the new facilities would include a new kitchen, cafeteria, dining room and laundry room on the ground floor of the mosque.
“Upstairs, there will be bedrooms, an e-digital control centre, and a living room,” he continued.
The bedrooms could be used by visiting religious teachers or double as homestay facilities to encourage more people to visit the mosque, said Zamhari.
He added that motivational talks could also be held at the premises.
Abang Johari encouraged the mosque expansion project, saying, “I am thankful for this opportunity.”
