KUCHING: The National Sports Council’s (MSN) decision on the date of the Para Sukan Malaysia (Para SUKMA) Games XX is not a problem for the Sarawak contingent.
The Head of Contingent (Chef De Mission) of the Malaysian Sports (SUKMA) Sarawak, Mohammad Razi Sitam, said that the mission to hunt for the 14th championship went without a hitch and saw all the athletes involved undergoing the final training session ahead of the games from November 1 to 6.
“Initially we expected ‘Para SUKMA’ 2022 to be postponed following the recent announcement of the dissolution of Parliament but according to the latest information it is still going ahead.
“It means that the mission of defending the championship for the Sarawak contingent continues, which we focus on the last few training sessions before leaving for the games.
He said this when asked by reporters about the preparation of the Sarawak Para SUKMA Contingent after launching the Sarawak-level International White Cane Day Celebration 2022 at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Centre, here, yesterday.
Strictly speaking, Sarawak’s mission to hunt for the championship is permanent by aiming for 64 gold medals at the Games this time.
“In the past our target was 62 gold medals, but this time it increased to 64 gold medals.
“Most of the events that Sarawak will participate in are expected to be able to contribute gold.
“This is looking at the achievements during the previous event in Melaka, although the event was small, we were able to retain the championship,” he said.
On the same development, Razi informed that the number of Sarawak Contingent that will leave for Para SUKMA XX MSN 2022 is permanent, namely a total of 238 people.
He said, of that number, 168 are athletes, with 84 officials plus 25 medical experts.
