KUCHING: The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) has urged the Education Ministry (MOE) to announce the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results on May 23, four days earlier than intended, due to the school holidays.
he union stated that this would allow teachers to take a break from May 24 to June 2 without the burden of waiting for the results.
On Thursday, the MOE had said the SPM 2023 examination results would be announced on May 27.
New Sarawak Tribune spoke to several people from students to teachers to get their views on the matter.

In my opinion, it is better that the SPM results are released on May 27 since the MOE has just announced the date officially. As SPM candidates, most of us now are having goose bumps since we also need some time to brace ourselves for our results.

My opinion is the SPM results should be released on May 23 because it is a school day so the teachers involved in the giving out the results such as the SPM exam secretary, the form teachers and the other teachers are available in the school. Analysis of the results has to be done immediately by the teachers. If it’s on May 27, it’s a school holiday. Of course, many teachers have already made plans earlier for the school holiday. Some might be travelling far especially when the Gawai is just around the corner.

In my opinion, SPM results shouldn’t be released earlier on May 23 because most students are not ready to accept their fate. Other than that, some of students need some time to calm themselves after knowing about the date when the results would be announced. Lastly, I suggest that SPM result should be announced on May 27 to make sure all those students are ready for it.
