KUCHING: Dato Johan Pahlawan Lela Perkasa Setiawan Undang Luak Johol 15 Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus, Dato Undang Muhammad Abdullah and his entourage of 16 people paid an official visit to the Sarawak Islamic Museum and the Sarawak Urang Museum on Sunday in Kuching.

His arrival at the museum marked Dato Undang’s second day trip to Kuching. He was met by the museum curator Norraha Abdul Rahim and museum officials.

The museum, founded in 1931, was the first Islamic museum in Sarawak. It was declared open as Sarawak Islamic Museum on May 22, 1992. Originally known as Sarawak Malay Madrasah, it aims to train teachers in Malay studies.

There are six galleries in the museum – the Gallery of History of Islamic Arrivals, Islamic Architecture, Science and Technology, Music and Clothing, Armament and Domestic Needs.

After visiting the Islamic museum, Dato Undang visited Sarawak Urang Museum which houses the Sarawak People’s Exhibition of a diverse collection of tribes in the state.

Dato Undang was welcomed by the assistant curator (public relations) of Sarawak Museum  Mohmad Noor Omar.

He was also expected to visit the mosque on Sarawak River, Darul Hana Bridge and the Main Bazaar before going to Semenggoh Wildlife Centre in the afternoon.

Also present during the museum visit was his wife, Tok Puan Faridah Hanom Jaafar.
