KUCHING: UOW Malaysia University Colleges and Colleges have announced the appointment of Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah as the chairman of the Board of Governors (BOG).
The selection, confirmed by the UOW Malaysia BOG on Aug 15, grants him a two-year term. Medan had previously been a member of the BOG since June 15, 2022.
With a distinguished career history, Medan’s professional journey commenced at Petronas, where he amassed over three decades of expertise in the oil and gas sector. His scope of experience spans the entire value chain, encompassing upstream, midstream, downstream, marketing, and trading.
Notably, Medan held the position of managing director/president (Asia Pacific) at Gazprom Marketing & Trading Pte Ltd, Singapore – recognised as the world’s largest gas company. He also steered Bintulu Port Holdings Sdn Bhd as the Group CEO from 2016 to 2023.
Originating from the Kelabit Highlands of Bario, Medan pursued his early education in Marudi before embarking on legal studies at the University of Malaya. His professional refinement continued with the completion of the Advanced Management Programme at the esteemed Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.
Medan’s remarkable contributions led to his induction into the Court of Emeritus Fellows by the Malaysian Institute of Management in 2017. This honour is reserved for individuals who showcase exceptional leadership and management capabilities not only within their respective organisations but across their industries.
Recognising his accomplishments, he received the Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability (ACES) Awards’ distinction as one of Asia’s Most Inspiring Executives in 2022. This recognition underscored his exceptional role as the Group CEO of Bintulu Port.
Moreover, Medan previously served as a member of the Education Advisory Council of the Ministry of Education from 2014 to 2016.
