KUALA LUMPUR: A financial strategic adviser with a Datuk Seri title was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of submitting claims containing false particulars for company merger work valued at approximately RM150,000.

An MACC source informed that the suspect, a man in his 50s, was detained at 5 pm yesterday at the MACC headquarters and has been remanded for three days starting yesterday until July 12.

“The suspect is believed to have committed the act in 2022 by making false claims for corporate services for the merger of two company entities when such services were not carried out,” the source said in a statement yesterday.

Meanwhile, MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

In another case, the MACC will seek a remand order, to detain a husband and wife couple who are social media influencers, for misappropriating donations collected.

According to the source the application for remand order to detain the couple would be made at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court today.

Hishamuddin when contacted by Bernama confirmed the status of the case.

Earlier, a Facebook account holder had accused the couple of collecting donations for their own use.

The account holder also claimed that the social media personalities had even created a controversy about their own household situation to seek publicity and empathy of the people. – BERNAMA
