KUCHING: The passing of former Puncak Borneo MP and former deputy minister Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit has been described as a great loss to the state.
Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu said the late Dawos was a humble man who contributed much to the state and nation.
“A loyal party member who cared much for the development of the Dayak community,
especially the Bidayuh. Losing him is a great loss to the state,” he said.
Dawos won the Mambong seat and then joined Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB). He defended the seat for three consecutive terms, but withdrew from contesting in the last
general election due to health issues.
He had also served as deputy minister of tourism, deputy minister of natural resources and environment, and deputy minister of energy, green technology and water.
The late Dawos, who suffered from nasal cancer, breathed his last at the age of 70 at his residence around 11.30pm, Monday.
He leaves behind his wife Datin Sri Christine Dawung Narub, three sons and seven
grandchildren.
