KUCHING: The state government will continue to formulate effective policies that drive economic growth and enhancing job opportunities.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that these measures would provide a steady and substantial income for the people.
Abang Johari highlighted the stability of Sarawak’s political environment and the unity among its people as crucial factors that enable the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government to dedicate its efforts to improving the state’s economy.
In his Gawai message today, he shared that state’s income increased from RM7.62 billion in 2021 to RM12 billion last year.
Additionally, the state collected RM5 billion in revenue during the first quarter of this year.
Discussing the Gawai celebration, Abang Johari said the anticipation felt by the Dayak community residing outside of Sarawak. The festival offers them an opportunity to return home and reunite with their loved ones. He extended his well wishes for a safe journey to those traveling by plane, car, public transportation, or boat.
The Premier acknowledged the improved quality of life experienced by the Dayak community, particularly those living in rural areas, compared to three decades ago. He commended the modernisation of Iban longhouses, which now boast amenities such as air conditioning, while also praising their commitment to preserving Dayak customs and culture.
Abang Johari credited their comfort to the hard work of individuals in various sectors, including farming, business, industry, oil and gas, and the public and private sectors.
While encouraging the community to enjoy the celebration, he advised them to exercise thrift and wise spending. He stressed the importance of saving money, particularly for crucial matters such as children’s education.
