BINTULU: Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) needs to continue improving and strengthening the role of Dayak women in the field of education and entrepreneurship.
Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom said it needs to set an example for others.
SIDS members, he said, can play a role in mentoring Dayak women to help improve them which in turn will enable them to contribute to the economy of the region.
“I hope that SIDS will always organise activities that can develop our society, especially women.
“I hope that SIDS can guide our women so that they know how to find ways to increase their source of income,” he said at the divisional level Dayak 2024 Pre-Gawai Dinner here on Saturday.
Rundi also urged the Dayak community in the state to remain united and work closely with each other for development and continuous progress.
He said, as the majority ethnic group in Sarawak, the Dayaks need to unite as one big family and at the same time empower their role in various aspects and fields.
He said Dayak associations or organisations such as Bidayuh Dayak National Association, Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak, Orang Ulu National Association, Sarawak Iban Dayak Association and others play an important role in uniting the Dayak community in the state.
He added that this year’s theme ‘Segulai Sejalai’ is a useful platform and guide for the Dayak community to continue working closely with each other.
“Therefore, this year’s Gawai celebration will allow the Dayak community to share their feelings and ideas on how to improve themselves for the future.”
At the dinner, Rundi also announced an allocation of RM20,000 to the Bintulu 2024 Pre-Gawai Dinner Committee.
Also contributing were Datuk Sri John Sikie Tayai and Dato Majang Renggi with each contributing RM15,000, Iskandar Turkee (RM10,000) and Johnny Pang (RM5,000).
